World Drums

World Drums are part of the huge category of world percussion instruments that include drums from Africa, India, Turkey, the Middle East, Latin America, and many other places. With literally dozens of drum types and hundreds of configurations, drummers have access to a broad range of sound, tone, and rhythm for solo as well as ensemble performances. Drum circles continue to grow in popularity, with new and advanced students as well as professional musicians often playing together. Drummers of all levels are especially fond of Djembe and Doumbek drums, which are portable, available in a number of styles and sizes, and perfect for group drumming. Bongo drums, Congas, Cajons, and Kettle Drums can be heard in music ensembles from rock to jazz, and in big bands to orchestras. Like other musical instruments, many world drums can be tuned to produce a specific tone. Tuning a drum head is accomplished with bolts or by using more traditional ropes or straps.
