World Winds

Like other wind instruments, World Winds are classified as aerophones. Considered among the oldest musical instruments known to man, wind instruments produce sound when the column of air inside them is set into vibration. This is accomplished by blowing through a reed at one end, by applying the lips to a metal mouthpiece to produce a type of "buzz," or by blowing into a hole without actually touching the instrument (as is the case with a transverse flute or side-blown flute). Tuning is typically controlled by the length of the instrument's tube or pipe, and different notes are produced by using finger holes, valve mechanisms. or other means. World wind instruments include bagpipes, didgeridoos, flutes and whistles, harmoniums, various horns, ocarinas, and more.
